Student Employment is a form of involvement! Our office offers a number of hourly student employee positions. We look to hire talented individuals within our office in the areas of civic engagement, leadership, service, and campus engagement.

Student Leadership Advocates

Job Description: 

The Student Leadership Advocate serves as a peer mentor for the department and supports critical departmental services by managing the Student Leadership and Engagement Center. Responsibilities include:

  • Commit to being a peer-mentor to first-year students in the Rising Leaders Leadership Program
  • Engaging the student body through robust engagement programming and tabling events throughout NC State
  • Facilitating SLE presentations for the NC State Community
  • Managing the SLE departmental email account and organizing mail/lockers
  • Staff the front desk of Student Leadership and Engagement and answer students questions
  • Supporting student organization education and development
  • Welcome and greet visitors to SLE and provide information regarding programming, services, and organizations.
  • Attend required trainings and weekly staff meetings
  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants and guests
  • Assist with marketing and outreach efforts within the office, including but not limited to social media, website, newsletters, and content creation
  • Assist as needed in all required departmental functions

 Weekly Commitment: 10-20 hours per week

Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $12 per hour

Service Learning Intern

Job Description: The Service Learning Intern plans and implements opportunities for students to engage in direct service with a local nonprofit partner and participate in a fun local activity 1-2 times a month.

  • Serve as the liaison between NCSU and local nonprofit partners
  • Plan logistics for Mystery Service Saturday including contacting nonprofit, planning post-service activity, planning and leading reflection, driving university van day of event, etc.
  • Serve as a peer-leader day of events cultivating a welcoming and inclusive community for all
  • Assist in marketing of Mystery Service Saturday program 
  • Explore new partnerships and ways to expand the program
  • Seek feedback from constituents when applicable

Weekly Commitment: 2-10 hours per week

Starting Hourly Pay Rate: $12 per hour

Civic Engagement Intern

We are hiring two interns who will split responsibilities that will support various civic education and engagement programs, leading the Pack the Polls voting education and advocacy group, and assisting with the planning and execution of Active Citizenry Series workshops. This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage in hands-on civic engagement work, build leadership skills, and foster community involvement among undergraduate students. The position is open to all students regardless of major.

Civic Engagement Interns will:

  • Serve as the student lead for Pack the Polls, a student-led initiative dedicated to increasing voter education and turnout among NC State students
  • Plan and execute events and outreach efforts to promote voter registration and voting participation
  • Plan and execute events and outreach efforts to promote voter registration and voting participation
  • Assist with planning and executing workshops for the Active Citizenry Series
  • Support the promotion and logistical coordination of workshops, including scheduling guest speakers, arranging materials, and assist in creating event advertisements
  • Attend and help facilitate workshops, ensuring student participation and engagement
  • Gather feedback and assess the impact of workshops to improve future programming
  • Exploring new partnerships and ways to expand the program
  • Meeting every other week with advisor to assist in planning and professional development

Weekly Commitment: 2-10 hours per week

Alternative Service Break (ASB) Team Leaders and Course Support Specialists

Applications for our Alternative Service Break (ASB) Team Leaders and Course Support Specialists are open! Please review the position description and selection timeline for each position below, as they vary. The application and selection processes for ASB positions are separate from those for other SLE student employment positions.

ASB Team Leader – Application Closes April 15

Position Summary: Our ASB Team Leaders coordinate many aspects of our ASB Experiences, including recruitment and team selection, service site and logistical arrangements, preparing the team to serve, leading on-trip reflections, and evaluating the program. Each ASB Experience has at least two Team Leaders. And Team Leaders will have a faculty/staff advisor(s) who, along with the Assistant Director, will support you along the way and assist as needed.

Academic Year Commitment: Approximately 3-4 hours per week during the Fall semester 2026; Approximately 5-6 hours per week during the Spring semester 2027; Commitment to an Experience during the entirety of Spring Break 2027

Compensation: Half the cost of the ASB Experience you lead will be covered by SLE

ASB Course Support Specialist – Application Closes April 1

Position Summary: Our ASB Course Support Specialists play a key leadership and mentoring role within the ASB program. This student staff position supports the ASB academic course, coaches Team Leaders through regular leadership huddles, and contributes to macro-level program planning and implementation. We are hiring two (2) ASB Course Support Specialists.

Student Employment Training: This position is required to attend SLE Student Employment Training. Anticipated dates are August 12 – 15, 2026.

Academic Year Commitment: Approximately 8 hours per week (may vary based on program cycle)

Compensation: $12/per hour

Noah is a Student Leadership Advocate (SLA). In his role, he works directly with Rising Leaders as a peer mentor and helps oversee the operations of Student Leadership and Engagement. Brooke works as an SLA and enjoys working the front desk, assisting with our Pack Leadership Initiative Program, and mentoring first-year students through the Rising Leaders Program. Brooke shared “This role has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life due to the impacts I’ve had and the relationships I’ve formed. Through being a smiling face at the front, I have found friendships with students who come in to use the space. Furthermore, I have been able to follow in my mentors footsteps and support my mentees as they navigate the difficulties of college. Through SLE, I have found a home on campus where I am surrounded by love, laughter, and support.”
