Who We Are

In 2012, the Union Activities Board (now University Activities Board), SORC (Student Organization Resource Center), and Student Government were brought together to create Student Involvement.  The Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, and Public Service (named Leadership and Civic Engagement in 2017) was created in 1998.  In 2020, Student Involvement and Leadership and Civic Engagement were united to form Student Leadership and Engagement.

Activities

Active Citizenry Series is a program within our office that consists of various workshops hosted throughout the academic year that discusses governmental systems and how to became a part of our ever-evolving political world.

Alternative Service Break (ASB) is a unique learning experience where students are able to engage in direct service to a community while being immersed in the culture. During Fall/Spring Break our student groups serve in North Carolina, across the United States, and around the world.

Black Student Board (BSB) is one of NC States first African American Organizations. BSB works to foster unity among students of African diaspora by providing a social outlet.

Mystery Service Saturday allows for students to embark to an unknown local service organization and engage in direct service. Previous events include serving with local farms, food banks, and parks.

The Civic Action Network is a coalition of student organizations that are committed to exchanging ideas, engaging in deliberative dialogue, and curating programming efforts in the area of civic engagement.

Clifton Strengths is utilized within our office as a tool to provide common language with our students to help them and others better understand themselves and maximize their potential. We provide individual coaching as well as a 10 session series.

The Leadership Development Program (LDP) provides 10 foundational workshops that are designed to further student’s leadership. Participants cover topics such as personal values, strategic communication, and team development.

NC State is a founding member of North Carolina Campus Compact. This is a collaborative network of NC colleges and universities with a shared commitment to educating engaged citizens and strengthening communities.

The Pack Essentials Hub is located at North Hall. The Pack Essentials hub works to help meet the food needs of all members within the NC State community.

Pack the Polls Coalition was founded in 2016 and works to foster a coordinated impact by bringing together organizations, faculty and staff, as well as students across the university to share similar goals of activating students to become civically engaged in upcoming elections.

Rising Leaders is a first-year leadership opportunity that allows for first-year students to build community with fifty-nine other students. This is a cohort based leadership program that covers topics like service-learning, resume development, and conflict management. Participants also have a mentor who is a second, third, or fourth year student at NC State.

Student Leadership and Engagement offers multiple internship and student employment opportunities. Some examples of our internships opportunities include: Graphic Design interns, Student Leadership Advocates, Feed the Pack Volunteer Coordinator, and Civic Engagement Interns.

Student Government is a student-run organization that serves as the official voice of the student body. Student Government works to better the student experience at NC State.

Student Leadership and Engagement is home to NC State 650+ student organizations. Within our office, we hold numerous opportunities for training purposes of officers and members within these organizations. We also host multiple involvement fairs throughout the year regarding how to further become involved in organizations.

The Leader of the Pack program honors and recognized students for outstanding contributions in leadership, scholarship, and service. This is a long standing tradition within our campus dating back to the 1990s.

University Activities Board (UAB) is a student-led organization that works to plan both original and traditional events to attract students from all backgrounds.

ASB Team Leaders are able to participate in a course to help prepare them to lead the Alternative Service Break trip and build community.

Participation

  • Feed the Pack Food Pantry serves on average 730 visitors each month, and distributes 10,000+ pounds of food each month.
  • 650 registered student organizations in 2022-2023
  • Over 3,000 users of the Online Service Portal and 40+ community agencies 
  • 34,000+ students served by Student Government, serving as the official voice of the student body
