Student Organization Registration

Starting a New Student Organization
Student Leadership and Engagement welcomes new student organizations to the Wolfpack! Students interested in starting up a new organization must review the latest Registration Guide which includes all pertinent information about the registration process for organizations and advisors seeking active status for the upcoming academic year. All instructions covered in this guide must be followed in order for an organization to qualify for active registration.
Registering a New Organization
Four Steps of Preparation
- Research: Review Get Involved to ensure another student organization is not already in existence with a similar purpose or mission. Contact similar groups to see if the ideas overlap, as this will be asked during the mandatory review session. Determine how the group will be unique and a benefit to members, the campus, and surrounding community.
- Plan: Create a student organization constitution utilizing our Constitution Template to establish how the group will maintain longevity on campus. Along with the recommended language in our template, your constitution must have a non-discrimination statement and a method of dissolution centering a non-profit distribution of assets to be in compliance.
- Learn: Review NC State REG 11.55.07. Ensure understanding of university policies, rules, and regulations so that the group is in compliance.
- Form: Establish an executive board that consists of at least one (1) president and one (1) treasurer. Recruit at least six (6) NC State student members, and secure an advisor that is either faculty, staff, or graduate student employed by the university who is willing to complete all requirements listed above.

Frequently Asked Questions
What training requirements are there for the 2025-2026 year?
Due to the pause on holding the Engage Conference for the 2025-2026 year, organizations must send at least one representative to one educational workshop in the Spring 2026 semester. Attending this workshop helps SLE know if your organization is still active, and will grant you eligibility to register for the 2026-2027 year. More details and a schedule of workshops will be shared as soon as they are available.
Looking ahead, the Engage Conference will resume in September 2026, and attendance will again be required for registration compliance. Similarly to what has been required previously, if you do not wish to attend the Engage Conference, your organization must have at least one representative at 3 workshops throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
If I registered over the Summer or Winter, do I have to register again?
Yes! All student organizations must re-register. Registration occurs from March-June and will allow for organizations to be active for the upcoming academic year.
Who can register in the Winter?
Any student organization that missed the normal registration cycle and new student organizations can register in the Winter – but please understand that all organizations will still be required to re-register in March to remain active the upcoming academic year.
When does the ENGAGE conference occur?
The ENGAGE conference will occur at the beginning of the Fall semester. Additional information will be sent out via email and on GetInvolved.
Do I have to attend both the ENGAGE Conference and Educational Workshop Sessions
Not unless you want to! Your organization can attend as many workshops as you want. However, it is only required that you attend the ENGAGE conference OR 3 Educational Workshop series sessions.
Who needs to complete the Financial Training?
All student organization Presidents, Treasurers, and advisors must complete the finance training.
