Discover Rwanda

This team will travel to Kigali, Rwanda, for a transformative experience centered on cultural exchange and STEM education in community schools. Participants will collaborate with NC State Engineering ASCEND and Rwandan university students to facilitate classroom activities in local schools that ignite curiosity and engagement with STEM topics. This team will also have the opportunity to visit the University of Rwanda, the Rwandan Women’s Center, and the Genocide Memorial, as well as go on a safari drive and dive into the history and culture of Rwanda.

Prior to departure, this team will collaborate to pack educational supply kits for local teachers to continue facilitating the STEM activities you will implement, leaving a lasting impact on community schools and students’ engagement with STEM topics. Reflect on the connections between resource accessibility, historical contexts, and education while engaging in cultural exchange with local students and teachers. Come prepared to engage in educational activities, build a close bond with your team, and explore the beautiful country of Rwanda.

Meet your Team Leaders

Our student Team Leaders are chosen in a competitive process to lead our ASB Experiences and have spent extensive time prior to the trip engaging with our ASB Team Leader Development courses. Team Leaders co-create the trip experience alongside professional staff in Student Leadership and Engagement. They learn how to plan all aspects of an ASB Experience, from the trip itinerary and reflection activities to risk management procedures and meal planning.

Program fees vary by trip, but are designed to cover most major travel and program expenses.
