ASB 25th Anniversary

This year marks an exciting milestone — the 25th anniversary of the Alternative Service Break (ASB) program at NC State!

Alumni & Friends ASB Trip

Help us celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Alternative Service Break program!

As alumni and friends, you know firsthand the transformative impact of ASB experiences on your personal growth, leadership development, and commitment to community service. Whether you traveled across the state or to international destinations, your ASB journey played a significant role in shaping the person you are today. We hope you will join us in paying it forward to help the next generation of servant leaders on their journey towards active global citizenship!

How to Help

We will be reaching out throughout the academic year with the following opportunities:

  • Join Us for a Special Event: We’ll be hosting an Alumni & Friends ASB Trip where you can reconnect with fellow ASB alumni, donate your time to enhance the efforts of our partner Service for Peace, and celebrate the legacy of ASB at NC State. See details below.
  • Spread the Word: Share your ASB story on social media and encourage your network to support this cause. Join our ASB Alumni & Friends Facebook Group for updates and a chance to connect with others!
  • Make a gift: Your contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward funding scholarships for students to participate in ASB programs. We have an ambitious goal of raising $25,000 – help make that possible by giving today!

Alumni & Friends ASB Trip

  • Dates: April 5th – April 12th, 2025
  • Location: Dominican Republic
  • Project and Details:  Yúmare Ecodevelopment in partnership with Servicio Para La Paz
  • Partnership Description: Servicio Para La Paz works to promote the development of individuals and communities through the shared experience of volunteer service through ongoing community development programs and access to safe water. Our ASB program has partnered with them for several years and most recently is hosting a trip in December in partnership with the College of Engineering to collect water quality research data to analyze and inform enhancement suggestions for water harvesting tanks in rural Dominican Republic. The Servicio Para La Paz community has stolen our hearts and we are excited at the chance for alumni to interact with this sustainable change organization.
